During pre-partition days, education was not meant for every rank and file. It was the choicest dream of a few, and there was an acute shortage of good schools. Some philanthropists and educationally blessed people from Sitapur thoroughly understood the concept of good education. Smt. Prem Lata Mehta who herself had worked as a teacher ,started a school in 1964 with only 50 students on its roll, with a view to perpetuate the memory of Smt. Sumitra Mehta, a dominant member of her family, popular among the people of Sitapur as pioneering philanthropist in the Mehta family. This School was established on Lucknow Delhi National Highway, close to the proximity of present Roadways Bus Stations. The school initially was recognized up to class VIII. Smt. The school under the able guidance and benevolent supervision of Shri R. K. Mehta, grew in leaps and bounds. The school subsequently, owing to some administrative reasons, was shifted to its permanent building at Vijay Laxmi Nagar in the suburbs of the Sitapur township. Sumitra Inter College, specially meant for girls, one of its sprouted branches of Sumitra Montessori School, received recognition under U.P. Board as a full-fledged Intermediate College, Sitapur. This college prepares students for U.P. Board examinations in various disciplines in High School and Intermediate classes. In 2006, Smt. Anju Mehta; wife of Shri. R.K Mehta, the dynamic manager of the Sumitra Group of Schools, conceived an idea of starting a school on the guidelines of CBSE. The Management team gave it a green signal, unanimously. For this project, six acres of land on Lakhimpur Road was acquired.
2006
In April 2006 after the completion of its required buildings, a new institution with the nomenclature of Sumitra Modern School saw the light of the day . With the growing demand of the parents to start an Intermediate college exclusively meant for boys, the Management bought land in the heart of the township at Seth Sukhoomal Road near the Police Lines, Sitapur road. The buildings have been raised, and the entire infrastructure meant for the purpose was completed in July 2012 by the name of Sumitra Public Inter College.
